Frequently Asked Questions

Before deciding on a mobility scooter, it is important to determine your needs. Think about:

  • How often do you need to use the scooter and for what purpose (e.g. shopping vs visiting friends)?
  • What surfaces will you be travelling on (flat asphalt, gravel etc.)?
  • Would you like to be able to sit down?
  • How important is it for you to be able to carry the scooter yourself (e.g. due to limited trunk space)?
  • Where will you store the scooter (e.g. indoors, outdoors)?

Once you have determined your needs, you can look at different mobility scooters and weigh up their pros and cons.

Your scooter should be serviced at least once every year to ensure all of the scooter’s critical electrical components are running smoothly. Battery replacements and tire wear can affect your scooter’s performance, and routine tune-ups can help prevent any problems.

A powerchair uses an electric motor to move around. This allows the person using it to have more freedom than with a manual wheelchair. Powerchairs make it easier for a disabled person to get around by themselves, as the speed and range of movement is not restricted to how quickly they can push their manual wheelchair.
